Selkirk Weavers' and Spinners' Guild
Weaving; Spinning; Studio; Demonstrations
The Selkirk Weavers' and Spinners' Guild is a non-profit organization that has been active in the West Kootenay since 1972. The objectives of the Guild are to foster the art and craft of weaving and spinning, to mentor the skills and development of beginning weavers, to encourage achievement of high standards in members' work and to collect literature for the use of members.
During the summer, from June to mid-September, the Guild operates a gift shop at the Doukhobor Discovery Centre, full of handcrafted work. Visitors enjoy talking to the weavers as they demonstrate the traditional art of weaving and spinning.
As a service to members, the Guild provides rental equipment, workshops, seminars, wholesale yarn supply and an extensive, growing library. Members are also provided the opportunity to participate at the Guild's annual exhibit and sale each November.
Guild meetings are held once per month from September to June in the Weavers' Room at the Doukhobor Discovery Centre. The Guild welcomes guests to these meetings.
