Columbia Basin Culture Tour

Vizzy Art
Vicky Issott

Acrylic painting; Mixed media; Animals; Bears

I came to the Kootenays (Nelson) with my husband in July 2009 from the UK. I am an animal lover and I am passionate about all animals. I volunteer for the Nelson SPCA and sit on their Community Council. I am the proud owner of two rescue cats: Luna and Bones, the latest in a long line of rescues.

I started trying to capture likenesses of my pets and those of friends via mixed media, but as my confidence increases I am moving more towards the beautiful Kootenay wildlife, particularly bears, eagles and ravens. I am using more acrylic paints and I also enjoy Zentangling.

I have shown my work in the Nelson Artwalk and this year I have been concentrating on smaller pieces (fridge magnets, Christmas decorations, painted rocks) and commissions.

My husband is a carpenter, so most of my works are framed using local or repurposed wood where possible. I make a lot of fridge magnets depicting Kootenay landmarks and wildlife and these are all painted individually on local stones (gleaned from beaches in Nelson and Kaslo mostly). My latest work was painted on a pizza stone destined for the dump! I have also used tile samples. I like to reuse and recycle where possible!

I donate all proceeds from sales of my art to the Nelson SPCA.
