Debra Rushfeldt is a Calgary
born artist who has been
exhibiting her mixed media
assemblage paintings locally and
nationally since 1980. Her art
education includes a four year
program in textiles at the
Alberta College of Art & Design,
further studies at the Banff
Center, and overseas courses in
Japan with the Parson's School
of Art & Design from New York.
She has travelled extensively,
and is inspired by the colour
and patterning of indigenous
folk art and textiles. She sees
her artwork as a synthesis of
colour, texture and materials
combined in an imaginiative
manner that reflects her
attraction to rich and sensual
surfaces. Her work has been
described as "intuitive,
sometimes playful, with heart
and imagination at its core."
She is represented in numerous
private collections throughout
Canada. Currently she resides in
Nakusp B.C and co-owns Prima
Materia/working studio, where
her work is displayed and
available for purchase.
