Erica Konrad works in the time honoured medium of encaustic. She uses the sculptural quality of molten beeswax to create layers of colour and texture, adding and subtracting material to arrive at the desired shapes and compositions. Working quickly to fuse luminous wax and paint in seconds, requires Zen-like concentration to capture the passion of expression or subtly expose the previous layers. The process is as important as the outcome and it is here where she is most at peace.
